Thank you for the input.  I have not worked with Word Press before, but I see it widely used for bloggers.  I will do some reading up on it before I take the plunge.  Have a great day!

Hello Hostned,

I am considering a stock installation of one of the CMS products from the control panel.  I am thinking of WordPress or Joomla.  Does Hostned have a preference as to which we use from a security standpoint?  Are there any changes from the standard install that need to be done?  I do not want to leave my site or your servers vulnerable.

Thanks in advance for your input.

General Hosting / Server migration
July 05, 2013, 11:00:27 PM
When I got home from work yesterday, several of my domains were not responding.  I logged into Plesk and it looked like it was upgraded.  I opened a support ticket and got no response.  Now when I try to log into the control panel it says the account is disabled and it looks like the old Plesk.  There are errors for the security certificate for both the control panel and email.  How long will this take to fix so that my sites are up and running?  At this time, I don't even know if I have email access.  Thanks, Melanie

General Hosting / What happened with MySQL?

I cannot log into plesk for the main account domain.  I get the attached error message.  Something happened with MySQL.  My Joomla install is now showing "unauthorized to view this page" when I click any of the links.  I submitted a support ticket more than 36 hours ago and have not received a response.  What is happening?  Was there a recent upgrade?

There is nothing that could make Hostned plans or services better.  Having been online for 10+ years now, I have researched and used other hosts.  I moved to Hostned after my last host went out of business.  Proir to that I was switching hosts on an almost yearly basis.  None compares to Hostned as far as price, plans, quality of service or tech support.

Thanks for the reply.  I added a meta refresh tag to the error pages located here:
/home/httpd/vhosts/domain_name/error_pages/
But that did not work.  It is still calling the standard dynaweb error page.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

Just Chat / Re: Windows Vista
October 27, 2007, 11:27:43 AM
Thank you for your opinions.  I had not thought of that (hardware upgrades) just to run Vista.  I realize in the future most software will be geared toward Vista, so I am forward looking.

Currently I have a Dell Dimension E310 with a P4, 1GB RAM, an Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Video and a 180GB SATA HD.  This is the most problem free box I have worked with as far as hardware.  I rarely reboot because I don't need to.  My old XP box I had to reboot 2x a day...yikes!!  Just old hardware : )

I will checkout the Linix forums.  Thanks again!

Just Chat / Windows Vista
October 27, 2007, 09:35:33 AM
I was wondering if anyone is using the new Vista and what are your thoughts?  I am still using an XP box because I do not have the time to learn a new OS...but with the Vista I feel it's time to change.  Microsoft has gotten too invasive and overbearing for my taste.  I am considering a Linux box.  I use only Linux hosting for my domains, so it seems a natural progression to change my desktop.

If anyone out there is a Linux fan and uses a Linux desktop box, would you please point me in the direction of a few resources/recommendations so I begin the task of learning what I will need as far as hardware and software.

Thanks for your help.

Design Other / Re: How much to charge for web design?

I agree with what you said zelo.  I am just a small consultant and I mainly work with local small businesses and non-profits.  When they ask what it will cost I give them a range and stress it is dependent on their needs.  I get them to detail their vision on paper and then i can draw up a proposal and contract.

Design Other / Re: Is Google SiteMaps really necessary?
October 27, 2007, 09:11:09 AM
When I use to design sites strictly in HTML/CSS I used Xenu Link Sleuth to create a site map page.  About a year ago I began switching some of my sites over to the Joomla CMS package.  I have not been concerned with a site map yet.  I tend to stay away from using 2nd party services for my sites.  The main site I get paid to maintain is in the first result on google using generic search terms.  I achieved that with meta tags and a proper title.

Scripting / Re: ASP vs. PHP

PHP on Linux I would say.  I am very new to all of it, but it seems very versatile.  I am working with Joomla now and I am slowly advancing up the learning curve  :)
