That is odd.  There are no server problems today.  Are you going to https://my.hostned.com/   ??

Yes, the fluctuating availability over the past week was the symptom  that initiated the maintenance.  The service is completely repaired now and we have all positive reports.  If you still have issue it may be for some different reason (domain name expiration, nameserver setting, etc...) then I suggest openning a support ticket for that.  Have a good day all!   :)

In regards to server in availability yesterday, the datacenter deemed it necessary to perform emergency/immediate upgrades on the node and the kernel prior to our scheduled maintenance window of midnight.  This resulted in in-availability of services without notice for some users.  Although we are very upset about this decision, we are confident that the datacenter techs do have the long term performance in mind for us all.  We apologize for the lack of notice and thank you for your patience and understanding while they get these networking issues resolved.

We're going to have to plan an emergency maintenance on the node in order to get this fixed permanently - we'll notify you once we have the maintenance time scheduled.

It sounds like your files either got corrupted or defaced.  I have seen this happen before recently where only index files are affected.  Try using your personal backups to re-upload the index file to the server.  I hope this helps you :)

If you open a support ticket for that, tech support can perform that action for you.

Announcements / Re: CP2 Linux Server Upgrade
February 09, 2010, 03:05:58 AM
Upgrade is complete.  One thing we noticed...  if you are using .htaccess file to direct mod_security settings, those will  now have to be wrapped in a tag as is now required by Apache 2.3

Here was the old way:

SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off

Will now have to look like this:

<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>

Server CP2 Upgrade Notice:

On Monday night (8PM - 11PM) we will be performing an upgrade on the web server CP2.  We will be installing Latest versions of software including Apache, PHP, MySQL and others.  This will ensure the latest, most secure server environment possible.

During this period we discourage any web site updates.  You may experience intermittent site inactivity during this time but nothing major.

Additionally we will be assigning a different main IP address to the server.  The new IP will be 205.251.136.130.  Be advised that if you have any web scripts that reference the server IP address or any DNS services that make such reference, you will need to update those to reflect the new IP so they may continue to function properly.  If you do not know what these things are then you probably do not need to do anything.

We anticipate all scripting paths to remain the same (so you need take no action), however, if you experience any trouble with your site (if it stops working or if you encounter errors) after midnight (EST), please post questions to the Community Forums here in reply.  This will let others see the information and common Q&A for quickest answers.

Thanks,
Tech Support

"I am unable to do this any longer and I guess this is for security reasons. "

Yes, recently we made a change to our Linux servers that disabled the "Directory Index" for an increase in security.  Industry standard is now to have this ability to browse directories disabled by default.

As a solution, you can provide a link to your user to the exact file name like this:
http:// www. domain.com/userfiles/userfile.zip

instead of the old way of http:// www. domain.com/userfiles/ which used to display all the files therein.

If you wish to go back to the old way, there is good news.  HostNed allows you to change back to allow DirectoryIndex like this

Add or edit the .htaccess file in the directory you want the index list with:

Options +Indexes

Keep in mind that this works only on Linux servers, not Windows.

I hope this helps you.

Scripting / Re: JMAIL vs CDONTS vs CDO

As for JMAIL, it works like CDO, but it sends 2 duplicate emails out for every submission.  Now maybe that's just the server I don't know.

I understand.  For the duplicate email with Jmail issue, just submit that in a support ticket and a tech can help you out with that.

If your sites are on Linux server you can use .htaccess.  Just create a file in the domain root (public_html or httpdocs) named .htaccess

Here is a nice how-to
